Logos Hope has finally made its inaugural visit to Malaysia! It is the world largest floating book fair and will dock at Penang Port from 30 August 2011 to 26 September 2011. In order to beat the crowd, I woke up at 8 am this morning (which occurs very, very rare on a weekend) and prepared to indulge myself in half a million titles of books from all areas.
Logos Hope sails around the globe with 400 crews on board and guess what, they are from 45 different countries. Refering to my personal encounter alone, I've met with a Swede at the ticket counter, Chinese at the briefing hall, Japanese at the cashier counter and some other nationalities as well.
Penang Port, which looks so deserted on typical days.
As soon as we puchased our tickets (RM 1 for adult, free for children below 12), we were lead all the way by friendly crew members to a spacious briefing hall. There, we were seated and brief on the history of the Logos Hope and the different sections and attractions that we can enjoy on board. I was actually distracted by some aunties "ooh-ing" and "ahh-ing" at how magnificent the ship looks and just imagine how ashamed I was when I turned my head to the side only to discover that yours truly mum was one of the "ooh-ing" and "ahh-ing" crowd. (=.=)
It's not true that "early bird always get the worm". I was there sharp at 10am and there's already stream of people with insatiable hunger for knowledge browsing through the books. But as I mentioned earlier, with half a million of titles, there must be something for everyone! And there's something I must share. On board, the price of each book is calculated in points. 100 points equals to RM 8. Let's say a book is priced at 150 points, the actual price you are paying is RM 12. This "system" I supposed is to save all the trouble of converting from dollars to ringgits.
One of the sections which I find interesting was the walkway towards the cafetaria. Along the way, there are different story boards which tell a short story of its own with morale values. However, I must admit that I was not impressed with some of them because some pictures didn't make sense to me. I would suggest some crew members to stand along the path and explain to visitors if necessary.
Like this one above, is it suppose to me "Girls are romantic, guys are realistic"?
To entertain the younger crowd, Captain Pontacho is always around the corner! I hope I get his name right because I couldn't hear very clearly with the kids screaming in joy. Oh by the way, he was distributing balloons as well.
Oh, meet Captain Pontacho. I look teeny minny standing beside this guy. xD
Enough of touring around, we headed straight to the cafetaria and these gigantic cookies definitely caught my attention. Got a chocolate chip cookie (RM 4) to share with my mum and a vanilla ice cream (RM 5) for Oscar.
Trust me when I say gigantic. It's as big as my mum's palm.
Mum is always like that! Not looking at the camera all the time! (=.=)
My cookie-faced boy =D
Logos Hope is open to all from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10 am to 8 pm if I'm not mistaken. So guys, grab the chance to visit this place for yourself while it's here. After this, I heard it will be sailing to Singapore or Philiphine.
Ends.
